W.A.S.C.O. World Open Championship 2008
28 May -1 June 2008, Lignano Sabbiadoro – Italy
W.A.S.C.O. Open World Championship took place in Lignano Sabbiadoro (Friuli-Venezia Giulia) in Italy from 28 May till 1 July 2008. It was organized by W.A.S.C.O. World Headquarters – President professor Gianni Sarritzu, Grand Master, 9 Dan Degree and Secretary General Mrs.Victoria Abugova in cooperation with National CSEN -President Mr. Francesco Proietti, Regional CSEN -President Mr. Giuliano Clinori, Regional Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) – President Mr. Emilio Felluga and Vice-president Mr. Giuliano Gemo, Municipality of Lignano Sabbiadoro - Alderman Mr. Giovanni Iermanno, Panathlon Regional Adviser Mr. Roberto Asquini, President Panathlon Udine Mr. Sergio Presiren, also the Presidents of the Panathlons’ districts of Trieste, Pordenone, Gorizia, Monfalcone, many prominent sports persons, Agency Vita 2000 Tour Operator - directed by Mrs. Federica Fasano.
747 participants from following countries: Austria, Canada, Croatia, England, Germany, Greece, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Moldova, Morocco, Nepal, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and others took part in this big International Sports Event.
Sportsmen of different ages were presented in the Championship. As usual there were a lot of different children’s divisions in W.A.S.C.O. World Championship 2008. The youngest participant was only 5 years old boy, who competed in mini-peewee division.
Specialists noted that juniors and seniors showed very high level of their skill in the sports squares.
With usual interest veterans’ (38-49 y.o.) and golden division’s (over 49 y.o.) competitions were held. The oldest participant was of 60 years old.
Sportsmen competed in Light-Contact, Semi-Contact, Traditional martial arts’ patterns, Free-style patterns, Breaking techniques and Scenic demo-teams compositions.
It was for the first time in the history that the special competition called SCORE TEAM-24 was held.
With special pleasure spectators met the Scenic-Demo Teams competition. The judgers (jury) were so impressed of the teams’ performances that had the real difficulties in the meting out rewards.
31 Referees was involved this W.A.S.C.O. World Championship 2008. 6 rings worked incessantly during 3 days of the competitions.
During all the days of the World Championship there was NO ONE ACCIDENT with serious injury of any sportsman – this is known in W.A.S.C.O. due to the really good W.A.S.C.O. LIGHT-CONTACT SPARRING SYSTEM Rules which were finally settled in 2003 by W.A.S.C.O. President Grand Master Gianni Sarritzu.
Nevertheless, First Aids Board headed by Medicine Doctor Lorenzo Marcia was always ready for any possible emergence.
W.A.S.C.O. World Championship 2008 was greatly illuminated by International, National and local mass-media. Several International TV Channels, local and foreign journalists, international news photographers were accredited there. The press-office was directed by Mr. Marco Piva.
By the common opinion of the participants and guests, W.A.S.C.O. World Championship was organized very well and had the great success.
Everybody enjoyed their sojourning in this popular resort, fantastic weather, nice Adriatic Sea, caressing sun and friendly atmosphere of W.A.S.C.O community.
